Penang Travel Guide: Part 2 Hotel Recommendations (Extra: hotel recommendation in Kuala Lumpur)

Last time visiting Penang, I stayed at my friend's house in Butterworth, so I got no idea about hotels in Penang. In December last year, before going to Penang, I have done a lot of searching on the internet and found a good website "My tan feet", they have all the information we need for a 3 day trip in Penang, except for the information about train from KL to Penang is a bit outdated as the night train they were talking about was replaced by ETS train and the night train no longer stop at Butterworth. I will link their website below:

They have very good hotel recommendation. I found that hotel prices in Penang is a bit higher than in KL. In KL, I book a room in the Pacific Express Hotel Central Market KL near Central Market and Pasar Seni train station. This is a 4 star hotel but the price is even cheaper than the 3 star hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. It was only 100 - 130 MYR (which is around 24 - 33 US$ depending on the check in day). This one is super convenient, it's just one stop to get to KL Sentral station, within walking distance to China Town and Central Market, which are great shopping places. I will definitely be back to this hotel if I visit KL again.

This is the twin room, there are many international plug-ins in the room which is very handy.

On the bedside table, they provide kettle and tea mug, as I brought a lot of instant tea and coffee, it was perfect for me to chill in

The bathroom has one drawback if you travel with a friend from different gender or not closed enough as it's 30% transparent. I forgot to take photo of the special door that can be used to close both 2 areas in the bathroom.

The hotel is next to this market which is full of cool stuffs and food stalls

The best restaurant I found in China town, also within walking distance to the hotel. I will tell you guys more about this in the next series about my favourite dish in KL.

Back to hotel in Penang, I chose the Hotel 118 as recommended by the tan feet website, it was great though it doesn't have as many facilities like kettle, international plug-in like the hotel in KL but one most favourite thing about this hotel is it's very neat and clean. The room has no odour when I first enter the room. One cons is that it the flush is so weak. I book this room in Agoda as booking.com doesn't have this hotel for me to compare the price (I normally compare before choosing to book on booking.com or Agoda). There are two Hotel 118 in Penang. They are very closed to each other. The one I booked is 118 Hotel (2 star hotel) as 118 Hotel Macalister (3 star hotel) is more pricey. It's easy to get to the hotel from the Jetty ferry as well. Just go to Terminal Jetty 1 (T/A/JTTY01) bus stop near the Jetty and take one of these route 11,201,202,203,204,206,301,502 to Penang Times Square, then it takes 1 - 5 steps to get to the hotel from Penang Times Square. You need to tell the bus driver your destination to buy bus ticket as they have different prices for the length of the distance you travel.
